As Grayson gets older and more interested in reading, I think it’s important that we introduce him to new books as much as possible. We have a lot of kiddy books that he’s definitely grown out of, so it’s time those move into Maya’s room and give him new options to choose from. My goal is to read a new book with him every night but sometimes he falls in love with a specific book and makes us read it for a week straight. That’s okay, as long as we move on eventually ;). Here is a list of books that we are currently reading with Grayson at 2.5 years old and he’s loving them!
50 States – This might be a little early for him since there are a lot of words but why not get him interested in learning the states now? This book is full of bright illustrations and fun facts about the United States. We typically read about one state a night… we let him pick which state!
The Pout-Pout Fish – I love anything that rhymes… it makes it so much easier and more fun to read over and over again. I also love incorporating sea/ocean books in the summer to get Grayson more excited about the water and ocean.
The Big Book of Bugs – He’s a boy! I have to incorporate a book about bugs, right?! Grayson is very captivated by bugs. Especially ants. He loves to point them out and gives a little “Ah! A bug!” every time he sees one and then proceeds to stare at it for 10 minutes. I love the illustrations in this book and that it describes all sorts of different bugs and what their purposes are. Informative but fun!
Iggy Peck, Architect – These books are so fun to read and look at. I love that it encourages exploration and imagination. Rosie Revere, Engineer is another one from the same writer that would be awesome for Maya eventually since it’s a little girl exploring her imagination and showing that she can create things from anything!
A few other ones we are loving and are on repeat this summer are The Snail and the Whale, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, and Where the Wild Things Are. I love seeing my kids read the same books that I did when I was young. It’s so fun to see that they are still so popular! Oh and he loves anything Dr. Seuss. The Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham are his favorite!
I think it might be time for a library date soon ;)
What are you reading this summer? I’d love recommendations!
