Maya’s nursery is done and now we are just waiting for her to make her appearance so she can fill it! When I starting looking into nursery inspiration, I really had no intention of making her nursery so….. pink. It really just happened that way. Other than the girly nick knacks, we used a lot of stuff we already had when it came to the furniture. The little dresser from Ikea is the only new furniture in the room. The shelving unit was in my room as a kid, so I love that she gets to use it now too. The room is simple and it feels fresh and airy. That’s what we love most about it!
I tried to tag as many sources as I could remember below!
However, you will need a few things to get you feeling like a normal human being again after your delivery so here is the list I put together for my second time doing this!
Nursing Bra’s – I am bringing two nursing bra’s with me. No one’s got time for uncomfortable wired bras. I wore the Coobie Seamless Scoopneck Bra, White while nursing Grayson and they worked perfectly. I wore them for literally at least 6 months straight as they are so much more comfortable than a regular bra haha! I’ve also heard great things about these and was really close to buying it….. but I’m cheap.
Make-up bag with essentials – I’d keep the make-up to a minimal and just pack the essentials that you wear everyday/make you feel like a human being ;). I’d also throw in these thing…. chapstick, dry shampoo, body lotion, face lotion, toothbrush & toothpaste, facial wipes, shampoo & conditioner (I’d recommend travel size….I didn’t wash my hair when I was there but some people do), and Colace (yeah, you’ll want this). If you plan to breastfeed, I’d also include Lansinoh Breastfeeding Salve – HPA Lanolin and a few Lansinoh Stay Dry Nursing Pads .
Socks, Slippers, and/or flip flops – The hospital provided me with comfortable gripped socks last time so I’m hoping they do the same at this one. I wore these in the room for the first day after delivery. Just in case they don’t provide any for me, I’ll bring a pair I already own. If you’re in search for some, Pembrook Non Skid Socks are great! I didn’t wear slippers at all but some women do. You can grab a nice pair from Target I’m sure. Then I’d pick up or bring a pair of slip on flip flops to wear outside of the room/home.
Loose tank/shirt & pants – this will be your going home outfit. These lounge pants from Target are awesome. I will probably also bring my BLANQI leggings because I’ve worn them for the past 4-6 months and they have been incredible! I could wear either one home. Also any loose tank top or shirt would work depending on the weather!
Electronics – cell phone & charger, camera & charger, computer/iPad (I was induced with Grayson and had a lot of waiting around to do)!
Nursing/Boppy Pillow – I have this on my hospital bag for Maya list as well but it’s just as much for baby as it is for Mama so I’d thought I’d include it here too, just in case. We just ordered the Boppy Nursing Pillow and Positioner – Bare Naked and I got a new cover from here.
Thank you gifts – I make individual thank you gifts for the nurses/staff who helped deliver Grayson but I might just put together a general basket with some favorite snacks and goodies that they can pass around to everyone working that day/night.
I’d also pack your own pillow, actually two, one for Daddy to sleep with too and a blanket for Daddy. I’d bring some of your favorite snacks but make sure they are energy type snacks like protein bars, peanuts, and/or fruit. Keep it light. You’ll probably eat most of the hospitals food anyway!
I don’t think I’m missing anything that I used that time that’s not included but if you have any recommendations on what I really should bring that you don’t see above, please leave a comment!! This little lady is coming so soon!!! :)
I can’t believe we are two weeks away from Maya’s due date! This weekend we had a full list of last minute “to do” things that I wanted to make sure were done before she made her appearance. Luckily, I have an amazing, supportive husband who knows he has to complete the list or his angry, hormonal wife comes out and no one wants that ;)
So, I decided to just pack everything for Maya in my Fawn Design bag and then when we got home from the hospital, I would re-arrange it to what would be needed full time as a diaper bag for two (toddler and newborn). I also feel like this is all so new to me (2.5 years ago is a long time ago, people!!), so of course I went on Pinterest to see what was recommended to bring with us. I also resorted back to this post, where I wrote what we actually used at the hospital vs. what we brought.
Here is the list I put together for our baby girl! (This is just for Maya, I will do a separate post for me).
Two (2) onesies – I just threw in simple white newborn onesies from carters. Since we know she’s going to be on the smaller side, I think newborns should be fine but I might throw in a 0-3 month size too, just in case ;)
Two (2) pajamas – So, I really hate button up onesies. I honestly have no idea why 99% of them have buttons. I mean, I actually get it, but they are the devil in the middle of the night when you are hurrying to change your baby, you’re half asleep still and it’s dark. So, this time around I was on the search for some zipper onesies and ordered a few from Old Navy, here. I may have gotten one in every color.
Going home outfit – depending on the weather that day, I might put her in one of these with a cute, colorful bow or head wrap. If it’s a little chillier, I’ll probably just keep her in her pajamas.
Newborn hat, mittens, and socks – Grayson didn’t wear many hats (he was born in August) and it’s already hot here in NC, so Maya probably won’t wear a lot either. However, I did get this one just in case it’s needed at some point. The top knots are so cuuuuutte! I also have one pair of mittens that I got from a friend but most long sleeve onesies have those handy dandy hand covers now so we’ll just use those. I also have basic white socks from Old Navy.
Swaddle blanket(s) – Grayson wasn’t big into swaddling… he was literally swaddled for like a day before we gave up. We mainly used his swaddle blankets as a lightweight blanket to cover him when we traveled or when he was sleeping. We will see how Maya likes her swaddle. If she’s anything like her brother, we will do the same with hers. We have the cutest ones from Little Unicorn. I got this set, specifically.
Nursing pillow – we love our Boppy Pillow! I used it ALL the time with Grayson and plan to do the same with Maya. I got this cover for it from FoxHillBaby. I wanted to get something neutral this time so we can use it with the next baby, whether it’s a boy or girl. Can’t wait to snuggle her on it!
Car seat cover – I got this one from Copper Pearl. I also got some bibanna’s from them but we will wait to put her in those until she gets home and we can evaluate her drooling ;) If you’ve been following me for a while, you know Grayson wore these forever.
Burp cloths – Grayson wasn’t a big spitter, so I’m not sure what to really expect from Maya. I do have two from Burts Bees Baby, just in case.
Bows – bows!!!!! I didn’t get to pack bows when we had a boy so this is super exciting for me haha! I have some from a few different shops to get us started (I’m easing myself into the bow world). Right now I’ve gotten them from Bloom Head Wraps, OliveRoseHandmade, JanuaryJane&Co, LittleMintJulep and Willow Crowns. I’m not sure which ones I’m going to take to the hospital with us just yet… it’s so hard to choose! #girlbabyprobs
I think I will also include one or two diapers, wipes and a changing pad just in case.
Thats it! I know the hospital provides a lot for you to take home as well, so we will be taking advantage of that for sure ;)
Well, as you probably see from my Instagram, a lot has happened for our family in the past month! I thought it was time to do an update on this little space of mine. I am going to do my best to pick things up over here, especially since this new baby girl is coming soon and I loved documenting moments with Grayson so I want to continue to do so!
This definitely came out of no where but it was an opportunity that we just couldn’t pass up. Kyle was offered a job in Finance here in North Carolina at the beginning of December. It was a quick turn around as they wanted him to start 4 weeks after the offer was given. We went back and forth for a while, contemplating if Grayson and I should stay behind for a little bit (move back in with my parents) while Kyle got settled so we didn’t feel so rushed. However, in the end we decided we didn’t want to split up. If we were going to take this opportunity, we were going to do it as a family. Kyle and I made a trip down for 2 days, the day after Christmas, to interview daycares and look at houses. We got lucky again and found an amazing in-home daycare and so far she is working out great! We decided to rent for a little bit and explore the area before we invested in our first home, so we found the cutest little townhouse in the perfect neighborhood. It’s walking distance from a whole slew of shops and there are always kids playing outside and families going on walks. It has a great atmosphere! It’s been exactly a month since we moved and we are loving the weather, the people and the overall feeling of it here. We are thinking we made the right choice! :)
