november is all about being thankful and acknowledging important people, places, and events that have made a big impact in your life. i am linking up with kenzie at chasing happy for the thankful project. today is for recognizing an experience that you are thankful for. i am thankful for many experiences in my life that have shaped me into who i am today, but for this post i am going to talk about the time i went sky diving over a hawaiian island.
see the video of the jump here!
sky diving has always been something that people put on their bucket lists to check off right before they are on the brink of death. an activity that many wouldn’t dare to try. i mean, who would voluntarily jump out of an airplane? i guess i would. i’ve never been afraid of heights so the idea of jumping out of an airplane was never scary for me. my cousin on the other hand had a slightly different response when i brought up the idea. after a little convincing, she agreed. when in hawaii, right?
the experience was amazing. unlike any other i’ve ever had. people have asked me to explain what it felt like, but truthfully, it’s not something that can be easily explained. free falling from the sky for an entire 60 seconds is an absolutely terrifying yet rushing feeling. my photographer told me to smile for the camera and have fun with it. i didn’t realize that was going to be so hard but trying to make heart shapes into the video camera turned out to be extremely difficult.
once my instructor pulled the parachute, we floated in the air for a minute or two just taking in the scenery of the island. i actually saw a whale jump out of the water below! freaking cool if you ask me. after i took a million mental pictures in my head of my surroundings, the instructor started to bring us slowly down to the ground. the landing was quite graceful actually. we went in a lot slower than i expected and he told me step by step of what i needed to do. we landed perfectly on our feet and wa la! i went sky diving! i am thankful for this experience because it really made me feel like i could concur anything. i mean i went sky diving for heavens sake. who does that?!
